DIGICEL TONGA EXTENDS ITS SUPPORT TO MEMBERS OF THE MANGO TREE CENTER

Friday 21st May – Nuku’alofa: Digicel (Tonga) through its support towards The Mango Tree Center, a learning place for the Disabled, finds the opportunity to assist ‘Akulina Tu’ipulotu with the provision of Free Internet.

Earlier in March of this year, at the Opening ceremony of the Mango Tree Center’s classes for 2010, Digicel Tonga’s Commercial Director Jack Bourke was there to present one year free internet to the Center. In further correspondence with the Centers Director, Rev. ‘Amanaki Kim, Digicel agreed to extend its assistance to include providing Free Internet to the homes of 6 Disabled people referred by the Center, who wished to join the program but are unable to attend due to physical constraints.

33 year old ‘Akulina Tu’ipulotu of Fasi is a recipient of the Free Internet provided by Digicel. For the past 29 years ‘Akulina has been suffering from Myositis Osificants, a condition where a person’s muscles turns into Bone. ‘Akulina is in pain 24/7 as most of her muscles have turned into bone making her whole body stiff save for some movement in her fingers with which she can still manage to operate her phone and type on a Computer.

Despite a permanently clenched Jaw, ‘Akulina can still smile and she explains that “I feel very blessed to be a recipient of the assistance given by Digicel (Tonga) through their involvement with the Mango Tree Center. I have only been in contact with the Mango Tree Center for just over a month, and have since received so much support including the Free Internet provided by Digicel, my computer is upgraded, and am getting a custom made Computer desk built to suit my seating position. Rev. ‘Amanaki Kim and his wife have been visiting along with an occupational therapy Doctor and a physiotherapist from NZ, and for this continuous support I am truly grateful. I very much like to take this opportunity to thank Digicel for the support they are showing towards our disabled community, your help is much appreciated.”

The Mango Tree Center is open for all contact regarding advice or assistance for the disabled and even for donations in any form for the Center and its members such as ‘Akulina, are than more than welcomed. Rev. ‘Amanki Kim and his team can be contacted on ph:28204 or 8799449.

Digicel places great emphasis on giving back to the community and makes it a point to reach out to individuals and organizations who are in need of assistance such as the Mango Tree Center, and it’s members such as ‘Akulina Tu’itupou.
