DIGICEL (TONGA) MAKES THEIR MARK IN HEALTH.

Monday 30th May, 2011:  Tonga is ranked top 10 in the world for Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) mainly obesity. It is a major health risk and Digicel is extending their arms to the health of the people in the Kingdom.

Digicel teams up with Tonga Health, an organization of the Ministry of Health and promotes healthy living. A five year campaign funded by the Australian Government (AusAid), their initiative is focus on four main factors, tobacco, alcohol consumption, physical activity and healthy eating.

Digicel (Tonga) Commercial Manager Jack Bourke says “It is important for the people of Tonga to step up and engage in this plan as it is widely known as an epidemic across the Pacific Islands. It is usually targeted among Pacific islanders with common health problems relating to their kind of lifestyles they live in”.

Jack Bourke and Digicel staffs have already started promoting healthy living by joining zumba classes burning off fat at Teufaiva every Thursday evening.

There is nothing Digicel cannot do; they have practically made their Digicel mark throughout the Kingdom from phones, roads, water, entertainment, zumba but most importantly, the health of Tongan people.
