DIGICEL (TONGA) ONCE AGAIN CAPTURED THE HEARTS OF MANY!
Thursday 12th May 2011: Digicel (Tonga) is still continuing with their development throughout the communities in Tonga. This was given to one of the most historical village in the Kingdom, Lapaha.
The village of Lapaha is well-known for its historical monuments situated in its mass landscapes and was known to be the old capital of Tonga in the past centuries. Nowadays, Lapaha is the most populated area in the Kingdom with many people travelling back and forth from village to village.
Digicel (Tonga) was approached last month by the Police district from Lapaha raising the issue in need of computers for their fellow officers to communicate with their families overseas.
This help lead to local committee of villagers approaching Digicel (Tonga) for more aid towards the bad conditions to one of their most used road in the village Hala Ue’ikaitau. It is measured to be 500m.
Digicel (Tonga) staff was greeted by the District Officer of Lapaha and the fellow Police officers stationed in the village on Thursday 12th of May 2011. They were really happy with the five Lorries of crushed coral aggregate to help reconstruct their roads for the ongoing transportation of people within the villages.
It has been prominent that the world nowadays are facing a difficult financial crisis, this includes the Pacific island nations.
The Noble of the village, Kalaniuvalu attended the ceremony and showed appreciation to the Digicel (Tonga) staff.
Noble Kalaniuvalu Fotofili of Lapaha says ‘On behalf of Princess Siulikutapu and the people of Lapaha, I humbly thank Digicel(Tonga) for helping with the reconstruction of this road , and I hope that the relationship between the village of Lapaha and Digicel(Tonga) will continue to grow into a positive road for all of us’.
The community development initiated by Digicel (Tonga) will be an ongoing process to see the small villages in Tonga come into a much better future with its people.
