JACK BOURKE BEST EMPLOYEE AT DIGICEL ANNUAL AWARDS & 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IRELAND

Wednesday 6th April 2011: Digicel (Tonga) celebrates another success with its Commercial Manager awarded ‘Best Employee Contribution’ at the 'The Golden Shamrocks', Digicel’s Annual Awards held in Ireland.

The annual awards are a celebration of the best of the best across all of Digicel’s 32 Markets and of its global workforce of more than 6,000. A handful of awards are bestowed upon the best markets and performers with more than 150 nominations in just 10 categories.

Jack Bourke, Commercial Manager: ‘I’m deeply humbled to be awarded with Best Employee Contribution at the Golden Shamrocks. My staff deserve this award just as much as I, they inspire me to be at my best, and to be creative in everything I do for the Kingdom.  Fun of course is important in any work-place and we work hard too. Being Tongan myself, makes receiving this award while working with the team here at Digicel (Tonga) extra special.’

In addition to the awards and workshops at the annual event, 135 members of the Digicel team took up the challenge set by Chairman, Denis O’Brien, to take a swim in the freezing Atlantic Ocean, on the West Coast of Ireland. Each person who swam raised US$1,000 for the Haven Charity – an Irish organization set up by Digicel Vice-Chairman, Leslie Buckley. The charity is working to build sustainable communities, through the provision of housing, emergency relief and by implementing community development programmes in Haiti. In total, US$135,000 will go towards the organization’s efforts in Haiti – so a big well done to all who braved the cold water.

Digicel (Tonga) staff were extremely proud that one of their own won an award at The Gold Shamrocks and draw inspiration from it to continue their great work providing excellent service and a superior communication network throughout the Kingdom of Tonga.
