ACTIONED-PACKED FINALE DID NOT DISSAPOINT!

 

Friday 22nd 2011:  Marist ‘Apifo’ou emerged triumphant as the 2011 winner of the  Digicel Cup on Saturday 23rd July at Teufaiva Stadium Vs.a hungry Toloa Old Boys in a tight game, final score 20-19.

 Marist took the Digicel Cup in the Premier Division and also the under 20 level Trophy. The runners-up for both Premier Division and Under 20 were Toloa Old boys.

Despite the pouring rain Marist Api’foou battled Toloa Old boys in front of a full crowd at Teufaiva Stadium who weren’t worried about the weather as they cheered their teams battling cold, wet and muddy conditions.

Awaiting the final games, the wet and freezing crowds were first entertained by the teams’ vying for the third and fourth place of the tournament, with Nukunuku from the west against Vaini, and Havelu against the Tonga Defence Services.

Digicel Tonga sponsors the Digicel Cup, where 56 teams from Tongatapu compete to be named the winner of the Digicel Cup and other divisional trophies.

Digicel Tonga CEO Paul Stafford presented the Digicel Cup to the captain of Marist ‘Apifo’ou and congratulated the rest of the teams and divisional winners a well played and entertaining competition, proving a memorable tournament for 2011. 

 

The Digicel Cup will continue to develop and foster Rugby for years to come with a focus on grass roots development.
